Indonesia's Tourism Breaks Records at FITUR 2024 Through Strategic Collaboration
Madrid, Spain - In anticipation of Indonesia's participation in the Feria Internacional de Turismo (FITUR) 2024, the Indonesian Embassy in Madrid hosted an evening banquet. The event was attended by more than 50 participants, including travel operators, tourism business stakeholders, and personnel from the Indonesian Embassy in Madrid (25/1). In his speech, the Indonesian Ambassador to Madrid, Dr. Muhammad Najib, highlighted the global recovery of tourism, where Indonesia welcomed 10,409,411 international tourist visits from January to November 2023. Of this number, Spanish tourists contributed 98,386 people. This figure set a new record in history, surpassing the previous highest number of Spanish tourists, which was 85,560 people in 2018. Monetary Policy Statement
At its meeting today, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of Bank Negara Malaysia decided to maintain the Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) at 3.00 percent. The global economy continues to expand, driven by domestic demand amid strong labour market conditions. There are further signs of recovery in the electrical and electronics (E&E) sector, but global trade remains soft partly due to the continued shift in spending from goods to services, and ongoing trade restrictions. While China’s economy continues to show signs of improvement, its recovery remains modest given the weakness in the property market.  (January 24, 2024)

Vietnam's glowing economic statistics raise eyebrows at home
Skepticism about economic statistics released by Vietnam's central and local governments is spreading, as gross domestic product and tourism figures show marked improvement despite poor business sentiment. The country's structural steel industry has been hit hard by plummeting demand from lack of investment and an economic slowdown. Production facilities have seen operating rates fall to about 30%, and steelmakers are in the red. In the capital Hanoi, new buildings that have been abandoned mid-construction are becoming a more common eyesore. (July 15, 2023)
